We are looking for volunteers to work in the South School library with our wonderful librarian Ms Glasgo.
This is different than in previous years, so please read carefully!
There are 2 library opportunities that will occur throughout the year:
* Book borrowing (All Grades)- Volunteers will shelve books and help students check books in and out. Volunteers new to the role must be trained on the library's computer system prior to their first shift.
* Library skills (K and 1st only)- Volunteers will help with research/art projects and will prep materials. Mrs. Glasgo may ask for additional skills volunteers in the older grades as the year goes on.
The deadline to sign up for interest in a library shift is this Thursday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. This sign-up is to express interest in becoming a library volunteer. We will contact volunteers directly to inform you of your exact shift dates next week.
This volunteer role is a fixed commitment. Volunteers are assigned a specific shift (for example, the first Monday of each month), and you'll be expected to be there. If something comes up, you are required to find a replacement. All shifts will be filled at the beginning of the school year; you can't drop in and out of library volunteering.
We will be holding two library volunteer kickoff meetings on Wednesday, October 1, at 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. These will include a library tour, a computer tutorial, and Mrs. Glasgo will review the available library jobs, which include borrowing and skills, as well as other opportunities. If you are not free Wednesday, don't panic, but please reach out so we can make sure you're up to speed with the library.
Throughout the year, there will be many opportunities to volunteer at other times for your student's class, so if these times don't work for you, or if you'd prefer a one-time commitment, there is lots to do.
