Dyanthe and Shaquawn's Weekly Letter and TNS Newsletter 3.17.26

Dear Families,

Each year, the NYC Public Schools ask families to complete a School Survey. The survey gathers important feedback about how well schools support student learning and success, and we use this information to reflect on our work and continue improving.

It is especially important that families complete the survey this year, as the superintendent and the next principal will review the responses to help shape the school’s work and priorities for the coming year.

Families only need to complete one survey.

Please look out for an email from Denise with your access code and a link to complete the survey online. If you have any questions, please contact Denise at denise@tnsny.org.  Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback!

Summer Rising is a free summer program offered through a partnership between New York City Public Schools and the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). It is available to students who live in New York City and attend NYC public schools in grades K–8.  Families can apply through MySchools until March 27.  The Summer Rising program runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, from July 1 to August 14.  More information about programs and how to apply can be found on the MySchools website

There is no school this Friday in observance of Eid al-Fitr.

Warmly,
Dyanthe and Shaquawn

PTA Announcements

  • Please fill out Dyanthe’s survey about the next TNS Principal. This is one of the best ways to ensure that your voice is heard. Tell Superintendent Chan what you most value about TNS and what you are looking for in the next Principal.

3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade families, if you would like to opt your child out of state testing, please let Dyanthe know by completing this opt-out form.

  • We are planning our Spring Fling and Auction! Reach out to Malia Baker or Brooke Moreland with suggestions. Join the crew and help out!!! Meetings every Friday after drop off at 8:30AM in the PTA room. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we need people to: donate items to auction, help upload auction items to the auction site, help plan the party, help distribute auction items to the winners and more. You can help in ways big and small but–it takes a village!!

  • Amazing turn out for our 3rd annual TNS Talent Show last Saturday! Thank you to all of the parents whose time and efforts made it possible! And of course, a huge round of applause to our performers–what a fun night it was!! Special shout out to Sarah Halpern and Amanda Fucello for fearlessly leading the charge!

  • We are under halfway to our Family Contribution Fundraising Goal of 35K for this 25-26 school year. Donate on zeffy or purchase a piece of TNS gear for a teacher or staff member. For families who are able, we suggest a $50/month recurring donation. Thank you SO MUCH to those families who are currently contributing!!!

  • You can also use a piece of your child’s artwork and order it printed on a mug, dish towel, magnet, etc via the “Original Works” Fundraiser! Part of the proceeds go to the PTA! Check out the details here and order a gift! Packets will go out this week and will be due back 3/30

  • We are looking for parents to join the PTA Executive Board for the 26-27 School Year! Elections will be held in May. We hope folks will step up to lend their skills, eyes and ears to next year’s board. We already have some eager candidates but need more! TNS depends on funding from the PTA and PTA exec positions are all in service of keeping the PTA solvent–the more folks are active on the exec board, the healthier the PTA is! Positions open for: Co-President (2); Co-Secretary (2); Co-Class Parent Liaison (2); Co-Treasurer (1); VP Fundraising and Community Building (1)

~Want to stay connected to the community? Consider filling out the Community Database form, and updating it every year. This way, when you need a service, are curious about how to support a fellow parent or want to stay more connected to other families, you can look with the TNS community first. Also, after you attend a PTA meeting, fill out the attendance column so we can keep track of how participation fluctuates during the year.
