Get ready, Walnut Acres Jaguars! ๐พ
This Friday, November 14, our students will take part in Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day! ๐
Please wear purple to honor Ruby Bridges and show your school spirit. ๐
Before the big day, students will be learning about Ruby Bridges, an American hero who changed history ๐บ๐ธ
Ruby was born in 1954 (she’s 71 years young today ๐). At just 6 years old, she became the first African American student to integrate an elementary school in the South. Her bravery and kindness helped pave the way for equality and inclusion in schools across America. ๐
In 2018, a group of fifth graders in the South San Francisco Unified School District were so inspired by Ruby’s courage that they worked to make November 14th Ruby Bridges Day! With the help of the San Mateo County Office of Education, their dream came true, and in 2021, the California State Senate officially proclaimed November 14th as Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day!

๐ A Few Notes for Families
-
Students can walk with their families or a trusted adult, so please make sure every child walking has someone they know. ๐ค
-
Families who don’t live nearby are welcome to meet at one of the two locations and join the walk from there.
Once we arrive at school, we’ll walk the track together until the bell rings, a wonderful way to start the day with unity, courage, and kindness. ๐ซ๐ถ
