Friendly reminder that most of our afterschool enrichment classes start next week! 

I wanted to especially highlight the below slate of amazing classes where we have many open spots left. Please register as soon as possible to secure your child’s spot and help us ensure that these classes have enough enrolled students for them to proceed. Better yet, sign your child up with a few friends!

Have a child in TK? Good news: Creativity Sparks and Glee Club are now open to TK students! (Yoga also continues to be open to TK.)

Capoeira Fitness Fun

Capoeira is Brazil’s fast and graceful Afro-Brazilian art form, which blends dance, martial arts, and acrobatics into one beautiful art like no other. We aim to:

  • Educate, promote and inspire cultural exchange through the art of capoeira.

  • Encourage our practitioners, who are children, parents, students, and professionals, to develop and maintain self-confidence and esteem and use capoeira as a healthy outlet for physical wellness and emotional empowerment.... 

  • Help our children develop essential social and athletic skills through a variety of activities focusing on capoeira.

Glee Club

Love to sing along to your favorite movies, musicals, and kid-friendly blockbusters? This weekly enrichment class allows young performers to explore iconic songs from the screen while building real vocal and stage skills in a supportive, creative environment. Each week, students will learn and rehearse songs from popular films and musicals, practice vocal and performance skills, create themed props or simple costume pieces to enhance their stage presence, work on staging, movement, and storytelling through song, and collaborate with peers to prepare for a fun end-of-session showcase. Whether you're new to performing or already love the spotlight, this class offers a space to grow, express yourself, and shine!

Embark on thrilling LEGO® time travels with Logan and Zoe! *New* Tuesday Cheerleading 

Given high demand for the Wednesday cheerleading class, we’ve added a second class on Tuesdays. (They are the same class, just now offered as two separate weekly options.)

Please join Jr. Jazzercise/cheerleading coach, Megan Burton, for a 13 week after school enrichment program at Walnut Acres Elementary School September 2nd through December 16th! Each class will include a warm up, stretching, fun games, snack time and cheer and dance practice.  Cheerleaders will receive a t-shirt and a hair bow.  Students will perform the last 10 minutes of class (at 3:35 PM) on TUESDAY, 12/16 and earn a ribbon!  Go Walnut Acres Cheerleaders!

IMPROV

Improvisation (Improv) fosters spontaneity, creativity, and confidence in students through fun, unscripted performance. This program helps children develop communication skills, active listening, quick thinking, and collaboration—all while having fun through drama games and improv exercises. It is particularly beneficial for students who may not feel comfortable performing scripted scenes, offering a low-pressure, playful approach to expression and storytelling.

General Objectives:

  • Cultivate quick thinking and adaptability in social and performance situations

YOGA

The Yoga program introduces children to basic yoga poses, mindfulness, and breathing techniques in a playful and age-appropriate way. Through movement, imagination, and calm focus, students build strength, flexibility, and emotional awareness. Yoga supports self-regulation, confidence, and physical coordination. This program blends individual and group experiences to help students feel grounded, centered, and connected.

General Objectives:

  • Introduce foundational yoga poses and flow sequences.

  • Improve strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination.

  • Promote mindfulness, body awareness, and emotional regulation.

  • Build habits of calm breathing and focus through movement.

Thursdays 

KARATE

Karate is a dynamic martial art that teaches children discipline, respect, and self-confidence while helping develop physical coordination, balance, and strength. This after-school program introduces students to the fundamentals of Karate in a fun and supportive environment. Classes are designed to build self-awareness, self-control, and teamwork, while also offering an outlet for energy and a foundation in mindfulness through movement.

No experience is necessary, and all activities are adapted to be age-appropriate, safe, and aligned with students’ developmental stages. The program culminates in a final demonstration or belt ceremony to celebrate student progress....

General Objectives:

  • Foster respect, focus, and discipline through martial arts etiquette.

  • Introduce key Karate techniques: stances, punches, kicks, and blocks.

  • Improve balance, coordination, and physical awareness.

  • Develop confidence and perseverance through progressive challenges.

The Drawing & Painting program introduces students to foundational techniques and expressive forms of visual art using accessible materials. Participants explore their creativity while developing fine motor skills, patience, and visual-spatial awareness. The program progresses from basic shapes and color theory to more complex art forms like still life and abstract painting.

This hands-on program encourages self-expression and cultural appreciation through age-appropriate projects, creating a space where students can build confidence and develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
