Math Kangaroo at Walnut Acres

Parents of Grades 1-5:

For seven years now, Walnut Acres has hosted Math Kangaroo contest for our students. Math Kangaroo (www.mathkangaroo.org) is a global nonprofit on a mission of helping students love math. The program focuses on improving kids' math skills, teaching them new strategies for solving problems, helping with critical thinking and gaining confidence in the classroom.

This year, the event will take place on March 20th, and we plan on offering free after-school practice sessions for interested students starting in late fall/winter. If you would like to join the Walnut Acres Math Kangaroo community or learn more, please join Math Kangaroo channel in Social Groups on Konstella. This is where all updates, practice session schedules and materials will be posted.

Registration for students is now open. For questions, feel free to PM program coordinator Oksana Sobol on Konstella.

Makers Market

The First Annual Walnut Acres 4th/5th Grade Makers Market is coming this December and it is your 4th or 5th grader's chance to start their own business and sell their items to the Walnut Acres community.

It’s not too early to start planning, making, creating and building. You’ll need at least 20 items to pop up your shop. Remember, all items need to be kid-made.

If you have questions, email makersmarket@walnutacrespfc.net or talk to Michelle Lederman or Susan Heffran

4TH GRADE! October is your month to help with Morning Drive Thru!

Parents, Guardians and Grandparents! Please help us in the Drive Thru line as we open doors and greet students while they are arriving at school. We would appreciate 2-4 helpers each day. Can you help for 25 minutes in the morning, 7:45 - 8:00 am? If so, please sign up!  All grade levels are more than welcome to sign up for this much needed job!

Please sign up using the link here!

Important Message! Please make sure to drive SLOWLY in our Walnut Acres School Zone, PLEASE do NOT use the driveway as a crossing to the school either by bike or foot.  Your students’ safety is our utmost concern and do not want their safety endangered. Lastly, please observe all “No Parking” signs and have your students exit the car by the passengers side only.  It’s crucial for the safety of students!

Thank you, Families, for all of your help!

The City of Walnut Creek’s Community Service Day (CSD) falls on the last weekend of Fall Recess (October 12) this year. So we’ve proposed limiting Walnut Acres’ participation in CSD to large junk/debris removal, with the tentative plan to have 3-5 volunteers with trucks pick up large items designated by teachers/staff for disposal from designated points at the school, load it into their trucks and bring it to the dumpsters provided by the City at Heather Farm.

Please sign up here if you’re available to help on the morning of Saturday, October 12 and have access to a truck.

We’re identifying alternative dates to hold a separate Walnut Acres Service Day(s) and will inform parents soon. In the meanwhile, we’d like to know if you have ideas about potential projects that parents can work together to execute in a roughly 4 hour timeframe. If you have ideas, feel free to note them in this brief survey (you can submit multiple entries).

Questions or suggestions? Feel free to reach out to Dareyn Stilwell at dareyn@gmail.com.
