2. Fall Fundraising Campaign - Spotlight on Physical Education

Physical education (PE) is a vital contributor to a well-rounded educational experience, promoting physical, mental, and socioemotional well-being. Did you know that PE can improve student grades and standardized test scores and help students to stay on-task in the classroom? Unfortunately, budgetary support for PE has declined considerably in public schools across the nation in recent years. At WCMS, our PTA funds enable students to participate in PE with Coach Big Al, who plays a critical role in supporting their development. Your donation of any amount during the Fall Giving Campaign will help make sure that our children continue to benefit from regular PE class as part of their education. 

We need to fundraise approximately $500 per student each year to support all of the PTA’s initiatives. If you have the means to help in any capacity, please donate via our PayPal giving website: https://www.paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/2826803, or mail in your donation with the form in the attached letter to West County Mandarin School PTA, 1575 Mann Dr, Pinole, CA 94564. 3. Yard Supervisor Shortage - Need Volunteers!

The elementary campus will be short 2 yard supervisors from 10/14 through 11/6. It will be difficult for the remaining supervisors to manage all of the areas, so we could use additional volunteer support on those dates to help with morning traffic and bus/student arrival, as well as afternoon dismissal and pick-up. 4. Teacher and Staff Appreciation Lunch 10/18

On Friday, 10/18, the PTA will host a Teacher and Staff Appreciation Lunch at both the elementary and middle school campuses. We are still looking for volunteers to provide food, drink, and snacks (enough for 4-6 people), to be delivered to the school sites for teachers and staff to enjoy in appreciation of all of their hard work and dedication to supporting student learning! 5. Volunteers Still Needed for Middle School Picture Day 10/25

Picture day is coming soon! We will need parent volunteers to help guide students to and from their classrooms as well as monitor them as they wait in line. Please sign up on Konstella here. 

6. Decorate a Trunk or Donate Candy for Trunk or Treat! 10/25

We are looking for more families to decorate a trunk for our annual Trunk or Treat Halloween celebration on Friday, 10/25, from 4:30-7:30 PM at the Pinole Middle School basketball courts. We also need candy donations to supply all our volunteer trunks! If you have any Halloween candy you are able to donate, please bring it to the school office at either site by Thursday, 10/24.

Be sure to join us on 10/25–we will have music performances, games, and, of course, candy for all the kids! The 5th graders will be selling boba tea and Krispy Kreme donuts to fund their science study trip, while the 7th graders will be selling Chinese food, pizza, chicken adobo, sweet treats, and other items to fund their trip to China! 

7. Pre-order Krispy Kreme to benefit 5th grade study trip 

Let's raise some dough with Krispy Kreme! Put in your orders and we will bring your original glazed or assorted dozens to the Trunk or Treat event on Friday, October 25.  Come directly to the "Pre-Orders" table and enjoy your donuts while the kids check out the decorated trunks and socialize with their friends!    Last day to order is Monday, 10/21/2024.  Donut purchases benefit 5th grade science field trip fundraising.  Place your order here!  

8. New! Minted Fundraiser

From graduation announcements, wedding invitations, children's art and more - WCMS families can now shop Minted for every occasion all while earning 15% of the proceeds from each sale for West County Mandarin School PTA. 9. Interest in additional Gongfu classes

Master Ben is considering adding a second teacher if there are additional students interested in Gongfu classes at the elementary or middle school. He is considering adding classes at 4:40 pm at Soskin on Tuesday and/or Thursday. If anyone is interested, please email info@benskungfu.com or comment in the Gongfu Class group on Konstella, and let them know if other times would work better.

10. Open Volunteer Positions

Note that the new Verkada system is operational again. New and returning volunteers must obtain a QR code via this website.

• Library Volunteers- Volunteers are needed at the elementary campus on Fridays and the middle school campus on Mondays. Please join the Library Committee on Konstella to sign up and stay updated or email the Library Committee at look3434@hotmail.com to sign up.
• Elementary Campus Volunteers - The elementary site needs volunteers everyday to help with drop-off and pick-up, as well as recesses and lunch: 
  • Drop-off and Pick-up volunteers (minimum day)

  • Morning and Lunch recess volunteers (minimum day)

• Middle School morning office help - The Middle School is looking for one parent volunteer each day, from 7:50-8:30 am, to help with office tasks, such as organizing attendance, taking questions from students and parents, answering phone calls, and updating the announcement board. As the role will require some training, it would be preferable if volunteers are able to come on a recurring/regular basis, rather than signing up for a one-time only shift. • Garden Club Volunteers (elementary) - Volunteers are needed during lunch recess to help with garden maintenance, such as weeding, mulching, planting, and art projects. No gardening experience is necessary. Please sign up on Konstella here.
• PTA Committees - many of our committees still need volunteers, and some (such as our JEDI and STEAM committees) still need committee chairs. On the Konstella app, click on “Directory” and “Browse Committees” to see available roles. Contact programsvp@wcmspta.org with any questions. 

11. Reminders

• Upload School Photos for the yearbook: Please consider uploading your photos to our Yearbook share drive folder for a chance to be featured in our annual yearbook! 
• Lost and Found: If your child has lost something at school, you can look for it at the Lost and Found cart, which should be placed in front of the courtyard by the gate during afternoon pick-up. 
• Spirit Wear Sales: We are currently exploring options for spirit wear vendors and will update the school community when this year’s spirit wear is available for sale. In the meantime, we have some sweatshirts ($48) and T-shirts ($18) from last year still available to purchase. If you are interested, please contact Angela Bradley, VP of Fundraising, at fundraisingvp@wcmspta.org.

2. Campaña de recaudación de fondos de otoño - atención a la educación física

La educación física (EF) es un elemento fundamental para una experiencia educativa completa, ya que promueve el bienestar físico, mental y socioemocional. ¿Sabías que la EF puede mejorar las calificaciones de los estudiantes y los puntajes de las pruebas estandarizadas y ayudar a los estudiantes a mantenerse concentrados en el aula? 2. 秋季筹款活动 - 聚焦体育

体育教育 (PE) 是全面教育体验的重要贡献者，可促进身体、心理和社会情感健康。您是否知道体育教育可以提高学生成绩和标准化考试分数，并帮助学生在课堂上专心学习？不幸的是，近年来，全国公立学校对体育教育的预算支持大幅下降。在 WCMS，我们的 PTA 基金使学生能够与 Big Al 教练一起参加体育教育，Big Al 教练在支持学生发展方面发挥着关键作用。您在秋季捐赠活动期间的任何金额捐赠都将有助于确保我们的孩子继续从常规体育课中受益，这是他们教育的一部分。
