 1. Fall Fundraising Campaign - Spotlight on Music

Music education facilitates learning of other subjects and teaches skills that can be applied in many other areas. Research has shown that learning music can enhance language development and improve spatial skills that are beneficial in math, engineering, art, and other disciplines. Our school music programs include weekly classes from local non-profit organization Music for Minors, as well as opportunities to participate in band for students in the upper grades. At WCMS, our PTA funds enable these activities, among many others. Your donation of any amount during the Fall Giving Campaign will help make sure that our children continue to benefit from mindfulness as part of their education. 

We need to fundraise approximately $500 per student each year to support all of the PTA’s initiatives. 2. Elementary Costume Parade 10/31

Students at the elementary campus will have the opportunity to participate in the school’s annual Costume Parade on the morning of Thursday, October 31. Students may come to school in their costumes, with their school uniforms worn underneath. The parade will begin at 8:25 AM. Parents are welcome to watch the parade on the turf field, but should not enter the school building unless volunteering in an official capacity. Participation is not mandatory, and alternative activities will be available for students who do not wish to join the parade.

We are looking for parent volunteers to monitor for inappropriate costumes in the morning, as well as to help students with taking off costumes after the parade. We also need volunteer photographers to take pictures at the event for our yearbook. Please sign up on Konstella.

3. District Minimum Day 10/31

A reminder that all grades will be on the minimum day schedule on Thursday, October 31. Dismissal will be at 1:15 PM for middle school, 1:30 PM for grades TK-3, and 1:50 PM for grades 4-5.

4. No school 11/1 (elementary only)

There will be no school on Friday, November 1, for grades TK-5 only, as this time is held for parent-teacher conferences. Middle school students will have class as usual.  

5. Upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences (elementary)

Please check Parent Square for details from your child’s teachers regarding signing up for parent-teacher conferences. Conference time slots will be available on Friday, November 1 throughout the day, as well as in the afternoons on the week of November 4-8.

6. Sign up for Multicultural Potluck Night 11/14

The Multicultural Potluck is one of the most anticipated events of the year at WCMS! It is a wonderful opportunity for families to learn about the rich heritage and diverse culinary traditions within our community through sampling delicious dishes. Save the date, and please sign up to bring a favorite food or drink to share on Konstella. 

7. New! Five Little Monkeys Fundraiser

Looking for educational toys, games, and books for your holiday shopping list? Make an online purchase at Five Little Monkeys between November 1-15, 2024 using the code WCMS2024, and the store will donate 15% of the pre-tax total to our PTA. You can also purchase in-store–be sure to give the code to the cashier, or bring this flyer. The store offers free delivery (with minimum purchase), free in-store pick-up, and free gift wrapping. Please share the code widely among family and friends!

8. Open Volunteer Positions

The elementary campus will be short 2 yard supervisors from 10/14 through 11/6. It will be difficult for the remaining supervisors to manage all of the areas, so we could use additional volunteer support on those dates to help with morning traffic and bus/student arrival, as well as afternoon dismissal and pick-up. Note that the new Verkada system is operational again. New and returning volunteers must obtain a QR code via this website.

• Library Volunteers- Volunteers are needed at the elementary campus on Fridays and the middle school campus on Mondays. Please join the Library Committee on Konstella to sign up and stay updated or email the Library Committee at look3434@hotmail.com to sign up.
• Elementary Campus Volunteers - The elementary site needs volunteers everyday to help with drop-off and pick-up, as well as recesses and lunch:

• Middle School morning office help - The Middle School is looking for one parent volunteer each day, from 7:50-8:30 am, to help with office tasks, such as organizing attendance, taking questions from students and parents, answering phone calls, and updating the announcement board. As the role will require some training, it would be preferable if volunteers are able to come on a recurring/regular basis, rather than signing up for a one-time only shift. • Garden Club Volunteers (elementary) - Volunteers are needed during lunch recess to help with garden maintenance, such as weeding, mulching, planting, and art projects. No gardening experience is necessary. Please sign up on Konstella here.
• PTA Committees - many of our committees still need volunteers, and some (such as our JEDI and STEAM committees) still need committee chairs. On the Konstella app, click on “Directory” and “Browse Committees” to see available roles. Contact programsvp@wcmspta.org with any questions. 

9. Reminders

• Upload School Photos for the yearbook: Please consider uploading your photos to our Yearbook share drive folder for a chance to be featured in our annual yearbook! 
• Lost and Found: If your child has lost something at school, you can look for it at the Lost and Found cart, which should be placed in front of the courtyard by the gate during afternoon pick-up. 
• Spirit Wear Sales: We are currently exploring options for spirit wear vendors and will update the school community when this year’s spirit wear is available for sale. In the meantime, we have some sweatshirts ($48) and T-shirts ($18) from last year still available to purchase. If you are interested, please contact Angela Bradley, VP of Fundraising, at fundraisingvp@wcmspta.org.

1. Campaña de recaudación de fondos de otoño - atención a la música

La educación musical facilita el aprendizaje de otras materias y enseña habilidades que se pueden aplicar en muchas otras áreas. 8. 空缺志愿者职位
