1. Fall Giving Campaign Updates +$34,000 with only 21 days to go!
The PTA would like to express gratitude for all of the families who have donated time, money, and expertise to the school this academic year. Thanks to all of you, we have crossed the $100,000 threshold in the Fall Giving Campaign. But, we still have a ways to get to our goal of $136,000 by December 31, 2025. We have +$34,000 left to raise to hit our goal. We need to fundraise approximately $535 per student each year to support all of our school’s programs, which include PE, music, STEM, mindfulness, restorative justice, and more. Your gift of any amount during the Fall Giving Campaign will help make sure that our children continue to receive all of the elements of a well-rounded education. WCMS PTA is required to remain neutral and appreciates your patience during this challenging period. Please direct any questions to the school at 510-307-4523 or westcountymandarin@wccusd.net
School is open with limited staff; students will be supervised by administrators, non-striking staff, and substitutes. Instruction will shift to supervised activities rather than regular lessons. Attendance will still be taken. Families may opt for short-term independent study for their student.
During the teacher strike, we know that finding safe and reliable childcare can be a major challenge for many households. Our community is coming together to help support one another during this time. To make this easier, we created a Childcare Support List where families can share if they need childcare or if they are able to offer childcare during the strike days. We know these times can be stressful, but we hope this system helps create a safety net for families who need assistance. Thank you to everyone offering their time, space, and care. 6. California Fish Grill El Cerrito Dine-Out Fundraiser - Thursday, December 11
Our school's next dine-out event will be on December 11th from 11:00AM-8:00 PM at California Fish Grill in El Cerrito. Present the attached flyer or mention WCMS PTA upon ordering or scan the QR code at kiosk. Dine-in, take-out, and online orders are all eligible. California Fish Grill will donate 25% of sales from the event back to WCMS. Make sure to use the fundraiser code: fund2025. This is for the El Cerrito location: 5040 El Cerrito Plaza, Ste. 7. Help Needed for Upcoming Enrollment Tours
We are looking for several parent volunteers to attend upcoming WCMS enrollment tours. These events are for families interested in enrolling in our school, in advance of the district application process. Parent volunteers would help to answer questions from attendees and discuss their experience with WCMS. There are both in-person events and virtual events (6-7pm). The dates are as follows:
The PTA is planning a teachers and staff holiday tea/luncheon. Teaching is a challenging job and our teachers are not only committed, they are also outstanding. 9. MAA American Mathematics Competition 8
The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute competition designed for students in grade 8 and below. The AMC 8 provides an opportunity for middle school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. Although the competition is focused towards middle school students, we encourage upper elementary grades to participate for the experience. Interested? Sign up here. The deadline to sign-up is December 17, 2025. The Competition will be on January 22, 2026 at the WCMS Middle Campus. The Competition Manager is Mrs. Fernandez.

Safety & Campus Access: Only approved personnel and enrolled students will be permitted on campus. Visitors and volunteers will not be allowed during strike days to ensure safe staffing ratios.
WCMS Bus Service: Is currently planned to operate on the regular schedule except that there will not be an afternoon Route 2. If you need to change your afternoon bus schedule to Route #1, please contact bus-coordinator@wcmspta.org
Drop-Off & Pick-Up (same locations)
Elementary: in the school parking lot at the courtyard gate (no Mann Dr. drop-off).
Middle School: inside the school parking lot by the cafeteria.
Meals: All students will continue to have access to meals at no cost. Families of students not attending school may pick up grab-and go meals from the school office.
Before- and After-School Programs: All programs are cancelled during the strike for safety and supervision reasons.

4. WCMS Holiday Tree Volunteers
WCMS has been invited by the City of Pinole to decorate a holiday tree to show our school spirit. The tree will be on display at the Community Corner of San Pablo Ave. and Tennent Ave. for the Holiday Tree Lighting on Saturday, Dec 6th. We will need parent volunteers to check on the tree during December after school and over the holiday break, and replace ornaments as needed. The times for volunteers to check on the tree are flexible--volunteers can go anytime to check on the tree. Sign-up here. Thank you!

5. Pinole Holiday Tree Lighting - Saturday, December 6
WCMS families are invited by the City of Pinole to attend their annual holiday tree lighting on December 6th, 2025. Children's activities from 3-5pm. Tree lighting begins at 5:00 pm. Shop & Stroll from 5:30-6:30pm. Please come see our school's decorated holiday tree and look for your student's ornaments! Please wear your WCMS shirt so that we can find each other!

10. Open Volunteer Positions
Note that parents must bring the QR code from Verkada (with photo ID) in order to volunteer.
- PTA Committees - many of our committees still need volunteers, and some (such as our JEDI, ART, STEAM committees) still need committee chairs. On the Konstella app, click on “Directory” and “Browse Committees” to see available roles. You may also contact programsvp@wcmspta.org with any questions.
- Elementary Drop-off and Pick-up - We are looking for morning volunteers and afternoon volunteers to help with drop-off and pick-up at the elementary site.
- Elementary recess/lunch - We are looking for morning lunch and recess volunteers to help at the elementary site.
11. Reminders
- Traffic Reminder: there is no left turn into the school from Mann Drive during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Instead of turning onto Mann Drive from Appian Way, please take Marlesta Road to help with the flow of traffic. (see map for refresher)
- Lost and Found: The school’s lost and found is overflowing! If your child has lost something at school, have your child check it for any missing items, or come check it yourself after school! The school will be clearing out the Lost and Found every month or so, rather than waiting until a school break.
- Join the PTA: Please consider joining if you have not already done so! Your membership helps support programming and experiences for our school. Yearly membership is $16 per person–click here to pay online.

- Volunteer: Apply at each school site(s) where you wish to volunteer and provide evidence of a cleared TB screening to the front office. 6. Recaudación de fondos con cena en California Fish Grill El Cerrito - Jueves 11 de diciembre

La Ciudad de Pinole ha invitado a WCMS a decorar un árbol navideño para mostrar nuestro espíritu escolar. 8 La AMC 8 es una competencia de 25 preguntas y 40 minutos diseñada para estudiantes de 8.º grado y menores.
