With steep budget cuts and district school mergers on the horizon, our school needs thoughtful, strategic leaders who are ready to guide us forward. If you’re passionate about strengthening your child’s educational experience and want to play a meaningful role in shaping what comes next, we’d love to have you step up.

3. Lunar New Year Teacher/Staff Appreciation Tea - Wednesday, February 11Thank you again to everyone who helped make our Holiday Appreciation Tea in December such a special event for our teachers and staff. They truly felt the love from our school community and enjoyed every bite and sip! To keep the celebration going, we’re excited to host another appreciation gathering in honor of Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day. We’d love for each class to be represented by bringing a small food or drink item. Please sign up here on Konstella to represent your class to bring food or drinks on Wednesday, February 11, when teachers and staff from both campuses will meet at our elementary site in the afternoon. Food items may be cooked or bought, and the quantity does not need to be large, just enough for 4 to 6 people. Your participation makes a big difference, and together we can once again show our teachers and staff how much they are appreciated. Thank you for helping make this a meaningful celebration!
4. Please Volunteers for Enrollment Tours
We are still looking for several parent volunteers to attend upcoming WCMS enrollment tours. These events are for families interested in enrolling in our school. Parent volunteers would help to answer questions from attendees and discuss their experience with WCMS. All sessions are from 6-7pm. The dates are as follows:
- Thursday, 2/5 - African-American Families Virtual on Google Meet
- Thursday, 2/12 - Elementary School Virtual on Google Meet

5. Sports UpdatesBASKETBALL: WCMS basketball has started up again for grades 2-8, thanks to parent Coach Figgs and with support from Mr. Brandon from LLS. To join, please show up! And please join the "Saturday Sports" group in Konstella to stay up-to-date, as there are occasional days without practice due to Soskin events in the gym.
- 2nd-4th grade - practices on Mondays 6-7pm at Soskin Middle School gym
- 5th-8th grade - practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-7pm at Soskin Middle School gym
BASEBALL - LAST CALL FOR VOLUNTEER COACHES: WCMS has the opportunity for 4th-6th graders to participate in the brand new WCCUSD baseball "league"/tournament this March-April. We can only do this if there are parents willing to volunteer to coach the kids and manage logistics. If you are interested in volunteering for this, please contact Carrie Cangelosi on Konstella or at ccangelosi@gmail.com.
6. Open Volunteer Positions
Note that parents must bring the QR code from Verkada (with photo ID) in order to volunteer.
- PTA Committees - many of our committees still need volunteers, and some (such as our JEDI, ART, STEAM committees) still need committee chairs. On the Konstella app, click on “Directory” and “Browse Committees” to see available roles. You may also contact programsvp@wcmspta.org with any questions.
- Elementary Drop-off and Pick-up - We are looking for morning volunteers and afternoon volunteers to help with drop-off and pick-up at the elementary site.
- Elementary recess/lunch - We are looking for morning lunch and recess volunteers to help at the elementary site.
7. Reminders
- Lost and Found: The school’s lost and found is overflowing! If your child has lost something at school, have your child check it for any missing items, or come check it yourself after school! The school will be clearing out the Lost and Found every month or so, rather than waiting until a school break.
- Join the PTA: Please consider joining if you have not already done so! Your membership helps support programming and experiences for our school. Yearly membership is $16 per person–click here to pay online.
- Spirit Wear Sales: Looking to buy some WCMS gear? Visit our Spirit Wear Website.
- Volunteer: Apply at each school site(s) where you wish to volunteer and provide evidence of a cleared TB screening to the front office. Please check the district website for school site-specific volunteer links. Here is the link to reapply. Then email the front office at westcountymandarin@wccusd.net to submit your documentation.
