1. Thank You for a Great Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week!
Thank you for all of your contributions and efforts to make Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week a great success! Our school and classrooms were beautifully decorated, students brought their heartfelt notes and drawings, and teachers and staff enjoyed a delicious lunch. We are grateful for all you have done to show our teachers and staff how much they mean to our community. Please see this link for photos of the amazingly creative door decorations from this year!

2. Advocate for Our School at the District Town Hall 5/12
We are looking for community members to attend the upcoming District town hall meeting on Monday, May 12, which will focus on budget, labor & district priorities. This is an important opportunity to make our voices heard and advocate for the district to continue supporting dual language immersion and the International Baccalaureate program, which are the foundation for our school’s curriculum. Help to inform district leaders about the value that these programs bring to our children and what a positive, vibrant learning environment we have at our award-winning school! The meeting will be on Monday, May 12 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm at El Cerrito High School, as well as via Zoom (meeting link: https://wccusd.zoom.us/j/97918432408).

3. Rockin’ Jump Fundraiser 5/18
On Sunday, May 18, Rockin’ Jump Indoor Trampoline Park will host an all-day fundraiser at their location in Concord. Just mention WCMS at the time of check-in to have 50% of all jump time revenue donated back to WCMS. Rockin’ Jump is located at 1631 Challenge Drive, Concord, CA 94520. Hope to see you there for a rockin’ good time!

4. Last PTA General Meeting of the Year (Virtual) 5/22
The year has gone by so quickly! It is almost time for our final PTA general meeting of the 2024-2025 school year. Join us on Thursday, 5/22, at 6 pm on Zoom for a look back on the year, discussion of the final upcoming events before the summer, and to welcome next year’s Executive Board. Agenda and Zoom link will be forthcoming on Konstella. Look forward to seeing you there!

5. Yearbooks are Ready for Pick-up!
If you pre-ordered your yearbook(s) by April 21st, you can pick up your yearbook(s) at the school gate during morning drop-off and dismissal times. An adult signature and photo ID are required to sign out a yearbook. If you would like your student or another adult (family/friend) to pick up on your behalf, please send your written consent to yearbook@wcmspta.org a day in advance.

6. Sports Committee Updates
Basketball:
Basketball is going strong thanks to Parent Volunteer Coach Reggie Figgs and LLS Coach Mr. Brandon. The kids participated in the WCCUSD tournament, and since then, have continued to practice and have played in 3 more outside tournaments! Basketball remains OPEN for 2nd-7th graders to join - no experience needed. They are especially looking for more girls in 4th-7th grade for future tournaments. Practices are Wednesdays 6pm at Soskin Middle School Gym, and Fridays 6pm at Pinole Middle School Gym. Please come to a practice or reach out to Mr. Brandon at LLS (ble@lovelearnsuccess.org) or Reggie Figgs (reggiefiggs@gmail.com) with questions.

Track and Field:
WCCUSD will be holding one more Track and Field tournament, open to all elementary and middle schools students in the district, on Sat, May 24 (Memorial Day weekend), from 9:30am - early afternoon. No prior track and field experience needed!  The goal is to get kids exposed to this sport and have fun. We do not have a parent volunteer coach for this, but WCMS students can participate in individual events.  A number of WCMS students attended the last one, had a blast, and came home with ribbons and medals. If you are interested, please complete the attached form and email it to Carrie Cangelosi at ccangelosi@gmail.com, so we can submit a WCMS roster.

Cheer Team:
We would like to gauge interest in developing a cheer team for next school year, to help cheer all our WCMS athletes on at various sporting events.  If your child might be interested, please complete this survey: https://forms.gle/wfZzTpA95huc7AF7A 

7. Food Drive Results
Thank you all so very much for a fantastic food drive! We had well over 4 bins of food donated, totaling over 1100 items. Our winners this year are GRADE 5, who donated 339 items. Here are the totals for each grade:

8. Middle School Spring Mixer Highlights & Thank Yous
Our 6th and 7th graders had a fantastic time at the Spring Mixer last week! From cha-cha dancing to backflips, the evening was full of energy, music, and fun. A big thank you to the amazing parent volunteers and chaperones: Lupita, Lisa Ehler, Edith Sotelo, Alicia Freeman, Jojo Szeto, Edith Flores, Tracy Louie, Phuong DeBellis, Erika Ordonez and Lai Saechao—and to all who donated food and funds. We hope this becomes a beloved tradition! Please see the links to the dance photos and videos. Parents and teachers can download photos taken by students.

9. Boba & Bake Sale Friday Fundraisers
Join the current 6th grade classes for a series of Friday after school fundraisers at Pinole Middle School to support the 7th grade China study trip for 2026! Enjoy Friday boba with both milk tea and chocolate milk, plus light snacks (this week will feature spam musubis, pizzas, donuts, and lemonade). It’s a great opportunity to have a tasty after school treat as spring arrives. Bring cash and an empty stomach, and help support our students! Boba & Bake Sale Fridays will be held on the following dates at the Pinole Middle School (WCMS elementary) campus: 5/9, 5/16, 6/6.

10. Open Volunteer Positions
Note that the new Verkada system is operational. New and returning volunteers must obtain a QR code via this website. If you have previously applied for a QR code but have not received a response, you may email WCCUSD Associate Superintendent Summer Siegler (ssigler@wccusd.net) or Director of Community Engagement Martine Blake (martine.blake@wccusd.net) for assistance.

6. Actualizaciones del Comité de Deportes
Baloncesto:
El baloncesto está en pleno auge gracias al entrenador de padres voluntarios Reggie Figgs y al entrenador de LLS, el Sr. Brandon. Los niños participaron en el torneo de WCCUSD y, desde entonces, han seguido practicando y han participado en tres torneos al aire libre más. El baloncesto sigue abierto para estudiantes de 2.º a 7.º grado; no se necesita experiencia. Buscan especialmente a más niñas de 4.º a 7.º grado para futuros torneos. Los entrenamientos son los miércoles a las 18:00 h en el gimnasio de la escuela secundaria Soskin y los viernes a las 18:00 h en el gimnasio de la escuela secundaria Pinole. Atletismo:
WCCUSD celebrará un torneo más de atletismo, abierto a todos los estudiantes de primaria y secundaria del distrito, el sábado 24 de mayo (fin de semana del Día de los Caídos), de 9:30 h a primera hora de la tarde. ¡No se necesita experiencia previa en atletismo! El objetivo es que los niños conozcan este deporte y se diviertan. No contamos con un entrenador voluntario para esto, pero los estudiantes de WCMS pueden participar en eventos individuales. Varios estudiantes de WCMS asistieron al último evento, lo pasaron genial y regresaron a casa con cintas y medallas. 4. 5月22日，本年度最后一次家长教师协会全体会议（线上）

5. 年鉴已准备好领取
如果您在 4 月 21 日之前预订了年鉴，您可以在早上接送和放学时间在校门口领取年鉴。领取年鉴需要成人签名和带照片的身份证件。如果您希望您的学生或其他成人（家人/朋友）代您领取，请提前一天将您的书面同意发送至 yearbook@wcmspta.org。

6. 体育委员会最新消息
篮球：

8. 中学春季联谊会精彩瞬间及感谢信
