1. Latin American Independence Day Parade (Fiesta Patrias) 9/12
WCMS will be participating in the Fiestas Patrias (Latin American Independence Day Parade) on Saturday, 9/12. All WCMS students and families are welcome to participate. Parade participants should meet between 9:00-9:30 AM on 9/12 in the Richmond Civic Center Parking Lot. Students wishing to join the optional parade performance group may contact Ms. Rodriguez at YRodriguez@LoveLearnSuccess.org. For further details, click here.

2. Fall Fundraising: Why WCMS is aiming for $170,000 this fall
Our Fall Giving goal is $170,000. It is ambitious because the needs are real: district funding does not cover many of the programs, resources, and experiences our students rely on throughout the year.

Across the full 2026-2027 school year, the PTA expects to raise approximately $303,000 to support students and staff. That works out to about $560 per student. The $560 figure is a guide, not a requirement. Some families give more, some give less, and every gift moves us forward.

When families participate at a level that works for them, our collective support creates opportunities for every student on our unified TK-8 campus.

Please donate to the PTA either online (click here) or via check to West County Mandarin School PTA, 1121 Allview Avenue, El Sobrante, CA 94803. 3. Volunteer Orientation 9/16
Join the West County Mandarin School PTA for a Volunteer Orientation on September 16, from 6–7pm to learn how to become a volunteer, volunteer opportunities, what to expect, best practices for supporting our classrooms, events, and campus. The session will be hosted virtually via Zoom and recorded for families to watch at their convenience. Spanish Translation is available, please email communicationsvp@wcmspta.org by September 14 if you would like translation support so we can make the necessary arrangements. 4. Tijon Dine-out Fundraiser 9/17
Craving Pho or Banh Mi? Join us at Tigon Vietnamese Restaurant on Thursday, September 17, 10 AM–9 PM and 20% of sales will be donated to the WCMS PTA! 6. California Coastal Clean Up 9/19
Hello WCMS Families!

The California Coastal Cleanup is fast approaching! In an effort to build community, meet new families, and give back to the environment I am coordinating a semi-formal event to gather WCMS families to participate in the local City of Pinole hosted cleanup event at Bayfront Park on Saturday, 9/19.

Please see the formal event for more details and to RSVP so we can communicate meet-up logistics in advance.  Additionally, signing up will give us an idea of additional supplies we may need and interest in a more formal PTA sponsored event in the future.

Looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces and showing our appreciation to the surrounding cities that we get to call home for WCMS 🙂.

7. Attention Middle School Families
The PTA is looking for enthusiastic and engaged parents to join our  Middle School Programs & Hospitality Committee. This role involves sharing ideas, providing feedback, and helping to bring programs to life—such as teacher appreciation events, school dances, science activities, and talent shows. 8. Save the Date: First General PTA Meeting 9/24
We are looking forward to convening our first general PTA meeting of the school year on Thursday, 9/24 on Google Meet. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the programs that the PTA supports, the work that the various PTA committees do, and how to get involved–looking forward to seeing you there! 9. Sports Committee Updates
MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL (6th-8th graders): 

  • WCMS is working on starting a 6th/7th/8th grade middle school volleyball team!
  • There will be an open gym on Monday, September 14th, from 3:00–4:30 PM at the WCMS Gym, led by parent volunteers, for any students interested in possibly trying out for the team. 
  • Even if you don't have experience with volleyball, this is a great chance to learn more.  
  • Interested students must sign up using the Google Classroom sign-up sheet sent out by their teachers.  
  • Please remember: Wear athletic clothing.  Have a good attitude!  Wear gym shoes (no Crocs or flip flops!). 
  • We are still looking for a coach! If any parents know a local high school or college student who might be interested in helping coach the team, please contact Carrie Cangelosi at ccangelosi@gmail.com (or message on Konstella) or Liu Laoshi.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BASKETBALL (4th-5th graders, possibly open to others) - LOOKING FOR PARENT HELPERS: 
  • WCMS has had a basketball program for the last two years, coached by parent volunteer Reggie Figgs, who is a professional coach!  
  • This popular program will be starting up again in the coming weeks, with practices tentatively scheduled for Mondays and Fridays. 
  • We will be starting with 4th-5th grades, but hope to expand in the future to other grades with parent support. 
  • For now, we are looking for parents who can assist with running drills at practices.  No basketball experience is necessary - just a willingness to help.

  1. Daily Volunteers needed

    To learn more about how to become a Volunteer at WCMS, please check out this Konstella post. We will also be hosting a virtual volunteer orientation on September 16th. 

  2. Join a Konstella Committee
    WCMS has many different fun and engaging committees to join. There are opportunities to fit a variety of schedules and interests. On the Konstella app, click on “Directory” and “Browse Committees” to see available roles. You may also contact programsvp@wcmspta.org with any questions. Please consider joining as a committee member, or share your expertise by taking on a committee lead role! We are actively looking to fill these volunteer roles.

    • Financial Secretary - help the PTA Treasurer count cash/checks received and help prepare the monthly reconciliation by pulling a small number of online reports.  This is an in person at school role that will take one hour, twice a month. 
    • Committee Volunteer - Join and help an existing committee at school with their planning, events, and initiatives.  Some committees need a new chair!  If it’s something you’re interested in, feel free to jump right in.

1. Desfile del Día de la Independencia Latinoamericana (Fiesta Patrias) 12/9
 WCMS participará en las Fiestas Patrias (Desfile del Día de la Independencia Latinoamericana) el sábado 12/9. Todos los estudiantes y familias de WCMS están invitados a participar. Los participantes del desfile deben reunirse entre las 9:00 y las 9:30 AM el 12/9 en el estacionamiento del Centro Cívico de Richmond. Los estudiantes que deseen unirse al grupo de presentación opcional del desfile pueden comunicarse con la Sra. Rodríguez en YRodriguez@LoveLearnSuccess.org . 2. Recaudación de fondos de otoño: Por qué WCMS apunta a $170,000 este otoño

¡Hola familias de WCMS! ¡

La limpieza costera de California se acerca rápidamente! En un esfuerzo por construir comunidad, conocer nuevas familias y devolverle al medio ambiente, estoy coordinando un evento semiformal para reunir a las familias de WCMS para participar en el evento de limpieza local organizado por la ciudad de Pinole en Bayfront Park el sábado 19/9.

Por favor, consulte el evento formal para obtener más detalles y para confirmar su asistencia para que podamos comunicar la logística de la reunión con anticipación. Además, registrarse nos dará una idea de los suministros adicionales que podríamos necesitar y el interés en un evento más formal patrocinado por la PTA en el futuro.

9. Actualizaciones del Comité de Deportes
VOLEIBOL DE ESCUELA SECUNDARIA  (alumnos de 6.º a 8.º grado): 

  • ¡WCMS está trabajando para crear un equipo de voleibol para alumnos de 6.º, 7.º y 8.º grado de la escuela secundaria!
  • El lunes 14 de septiembre, de 15:00 a 16:30 horas, habrá una jornada de entrenamiento libre  en el gimnasio de la escuela secundaria WCMS , dirigida por padres voluntarios, para todos los estudiantes interesados ​​en la posibilidad de presentarse a las pruebas de selección del equipo. 
  • Aunque no tengas experiencia en voleibol, esta es una gran oportunidad para aprender más.

4. Tijon餐厅外卖筹款活动 9月17日

动态 中学排球 （6-8年级）： 

  • WCMS正在筹建一支六年级/七年级/八年级的中学排球队！
  • 9 月 14 日星期一下午 3:00 至 4:30，WCMS 体育馆将举办 由家长志愿者带领的开放式体育馆活动，欢迎任何有兴趣参加球队选拔的学生参加。 
  • 即使你没有排球经验，这也是一个学习排球的好机会。  
  • 感兴趣的学生必须使用老师发送的 Google Classroom 报名表进行报名。  
  • 请记住：穿运动服。保持积极的态度！穿运动鞋（不要穿洞洞鞋或人字拖！）。
